Where Science Meets Soul & Compasion

Welcome, friends! I’m Katie Holmes - a functional nutrition and movement lover, regenerative gardener, and mama to two sweet, spirited little boys. Tucked away in a cob home built with love in the heart of the North Carolina mountains, I live, breathe, and practice the power of real, foundational wellness and root-cause health.

If you’re here, chances are you’re navigating the beautiful, wild, and sometimes overwhelming journey of nourishing yourself or your family. Whether you’re preparing your body to conceive, navigating tricky (or high-risk) pregnancy symptoms, trying to figure out how to feed a growing toddler, moving through understanding pediatric gut health and microbiome development, or simply trying to bring peace and vibrancy back into your home, you’ve found a safer place to land!

I bring a unique blend of clinical expertise and functional movement to my practice, grounded in evidence-based Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), and root cause, judgment-free, trauma-informed care. I specialize in maternal, pediatric, and family health with a deep focus on whole foods, nourishing recipes, nervous system regulation, stress management, and sustainable behavioral & lifestyle change.

I don't believe in rigid rules, stressful diets, blaming, shaming, anxiety-inducing protocols, or one-size-fits-all advice. I do believe in integrating up to date scientific evidence and clinical precision with ancestral wisdom and gentle, practical everyday life to provide you with compassionate and personalized care that meets you right where you are, while honoring your unique story, your lived experience, and the human behind the health history. Together, we build realistic, sustainable habits at a pace that respects your mental bandwidth, your nervous system capacity, and any dietary/cultural/religious preferences and needs and recognizes how stress, past medical trauma, and major life transitions impact gut function, blood sugar, and metabolic balance.

My Core Philosophy: As the Earth, So the Body

You’ll notice that I view human health through the lens of a garden. For me, that is far more than just a sweet metaphor - it is at the absolute root of everything I do.

Just as we sow seeds into healthy earth, we sow intentional habits into our daily lives. There is an undeniable biological bridge between the health of our soil and the health of the human gut microbiome. Just as modern agricultural soils are often depleted of critical minerals, biodiversity, and living organisms, our bodies can face that exact same depletion from chronic stress, environmental factors, and reliance on the fast-paced convenience of modern food systems. We simply cannot separate human health from the health of Mother Earth.

When we restore our soil through intentional, regenerative practices, we yield vibrant, nutrient-dense nourishment. In the exact same way, when we tend to our personal "internal soil" (our gut microbiome, metabolic baseline, and nervous system), our bodies regain the resilience to heal, adapt, and bring new life into the world.

My mission is to help you tend to your body with the same reverence, care, and patience that we give to the Earth itself. My approach is centered on:

  • Ingredient Integrity & Abundance: Rather than strict elimination, we focus on what we can add. We prioritize whole-food foundations, nutrient-dense ingredients, variety, and simple staple foods.

  • True Body Literacy & Intuitive Alignment: Food isn't just fuel; it's information for your cells and nervous system. I help you cultivate deep body literacy through learning to listen to how different ingredients affect your energy, digestion, blood sugar, and mood in real time, so you can make empowered choices without needing rigid rules or food fear.

  • Accessibility & Practical Living: Nourishing your family with simple staples and intentional ingredients should feel grounded and achievable - fitting comfortably within your actual budget, busy schedule, and mental bandwidth.

When we tend to our internal ecosystem with kindness and quality, health becomes less about striving for perfection and more about natural, balanced, joyful cultivation.

My Story & Heart: The Path That Brought Me Here

My path into functional nutrition and holistic health wasn't just born in a university classroom; it was cultivated in everyday life and forged through my own deeply personal, transformative journey into motherhood and healing. My passions are rooted in my genuine love for both science and the natural world and how they go hand in hand. Long before I earned my master’s degree I learned how profoundly whole foods, nervous system regulation, and intentional movement can transform how we feel from the inside out.

My health journey hasn't been a straight line, and I know what it’s like to live inside a body that feels overwhelmed. Through targeted nutrition, nervous system support, and gut healing, I’ve been able to manage my own PTSD, generalized anxiety, and postpartum OCD, as well as clear my eczema and regulate hormonal migraines during my time of the month. I have also been able to successfully overcome a long-standing dairy allergy so I can enjoy foods like artisan cheeses, butter, and yogurt again. When you work with me, you’re sitting down with someone who truly understands the physical and mental toll of chronic symptoms and who knows how to navigate the road to real, lasting relief.

When my first son arrived unexpectedly at just 31 weeks, my world turned upside down. Navigating an unplanned emergency C-section and several medical interventions, born out of a lack of informed consent and proper support/advocacy, and unpreparedness. I spent over six grueling weeks sitting by his side in the NICU. I had found myself navigating the terrifying world of early parenthood entirely on my own at just 23 years old, with little more than a basic understanding of nutrition and how to apply it to the new little life I was now fully responsible for. My first pregnancy was rooted in deep emotional pain and abandonment, leaving me believing I would never want to go through pregnancy or birth again.

It was during those long days in the NICU, watching my tiny boy fight and thrive, that a fire was lit inside me. I realized how critical true, root-cause health, advocacy, and clinical nutrition were for both mothers and babies and I vowed then to master it.

Life brought healing when I met my husband - who has since adopted my eldest son and shown our family the power of unconditional love. Supported, cherished, and deeply nourished, I went on to experience a deeply healing, unmedicated VBAC with our second son. This birth completely restored my relationship with my body, food, and pregnancy.

During my second pregnancy, when faced with sudden immune stress and hyperthyroidism, I put my clinical training into action for my own body. Through whole food, personalized nourishment, vagus nerve stimulation, lymphatic drainage, and deep nervous system regulation, I successfully reversed my hyperthyroidism and brought my thyroid panel back into range using food and movement alone.

Having walked both paths - from an isolated, high-risk, traumatic entry into motherhood to an empowered, nourished, and joyful birth - I know firsthand how profound it is to feel properly supported. I do this work so that no mother has to navigate her health, her pregnancy, or her baby's wellness feeling uninformed, unsupported, unheard, unseen, or alone. In my practice I value radical autonomy and informed care, ensuring your voice and your choices are always supported and respected and you leave our time together feeling more empowered.

I know firsthand how busy life gets and the physical, mental, and emotional demands of raising a family. I know what it’s like to balance a home, care for little ones (and get them to all the places they need to be), and try to make the healthiest choices without losing your sanity. My work is built on the belief that nourishing your family shouldn't feel like a chore, it should feel like coming home to yourself. I ground what I do with the perspective that health care should feel like a partnership that honors your autonomy, individual capacity, and your body’s wisdom and bio-individuality! I believe you are always the expert on your own body and as such, we review lab data, clinical protocols, and interventions as a team so you remain in control of your care plan. My role is to help you find what deeply nourishes your unique body and soul and to help you take that information and transform it into sustainable lifestyle habits.

How We Can Grow Together

I support women, mothers, growing families, hopeful parents-to-be, little ones, and anyone else ready to take a gentle, root-cause approach to their health. Pregnancy and parenting are dynamic, evolving journeys. Just as a plant needs intentional soil, care, and room to stretch - your body requires distinct, targeted support through every stage of growth and I'm here to help!

Evidence-Based Expertise, Compassionate Care

While my heart is rooted in the garden and the home, my approach is grounded in rigorous education spanning biochemistry, anatomy & physiology, genetics, microbiology, psychology, and functional movement. I hold a deep passion for understanding the human body at every stage of growth, with special expertise in pediatric nutrition, gut health, and early family and childhood development.

How I Live & Practice

Living surrounded by the mountain woods with my husband, our two boys, our Blue Heeler, Juno, and 10 clucking chickens, my daily life is my greatest inspiration and significantly connected to the work I do with my clients. On any given day, you can find me:

  • In the kitchen: Baking and cooking from scratch, using my Mimi’s tried and true recipes or creating new ones with the ingredients on hand, transforming freshly harvested vegetables from our organic, regenerative garden and local farmers' markets into hearty, comforting, nutrient-dense meals, or using medicinal herbs to make natural remedies and skin care products.

  • Out in nature: Cultivating our homestead, foraging for mushrooms and berries, hiking through mountain trails (always on the hunt for a good waterfall!), picking flowers, or soaking in the peaceful quiet of functional movement, daily yoga, and mindfulness with a picture perfect sunset/sunrise mountain view.

  • Around the table: Unwinding with a deep dive into a compelling nonfiction book, cup of warm herbal tea in hand, or playing board/card games with my family.
